TabNestor Version 2.1: On-Device AI and a Much Steadier Experience 🚀

This is our biggest release so far. Version 2.1 introduces AI-powered naming that runs entirely on your own machine, and it clears out a long list of problems that had been getting in the way of everyday use — including a popup that refused to sit still and saved tab sets that quietly vanished from the list. If you have been putting up with any of those, this update is for you.

✨ What’s New in Version 2.1 ✨

✨ Let AI Name Your Tab Sets

Not sure what to call a group of tabs? Press “Let AI name this set” and TabNestor suggests a short, fitting name based on what you have open. It reads only page titles and site names — never the content of your pages — and everything is processed by Chrome’s built-in AI on your own device. No data ever leaves your machine.
This feature needs a desktop or laptop with Chrome 138 or later, 22 GB of free disk space, and a GPU with more than 4 GB of VRAM (or 16 GB of RAM with 4+ CPU cores). It works in German, English, Spanish, French, and Japanese. If your setup doesn’t qualify, the button simply won’t appear — you can always check your status on the Options page.

🪟 No More Shaking Popup

The popup could shake left and right and never settle down, making the extension almost unusable. That is fixed. It now opens at a stable size every single time.

📋 Saved Tab Sets Stay in the List

If you had ever reordered your tab sets by dragging them, newly saved or imported sets could disappear from the list afterwards. Your data was never lost — it just wasn’t being displayed. Everything you save now shows up immediately.

📤 Export Runs Exactly Once

Exporting could download the same file several times over and open a stack of email windows. One click now does exactly one thing.

🔐 Stronger Password Storage

Your password is no longer kept as plain text. It is now stored as a salted hash, so the password itself can’t be read back out. Existing passwords are upgraded automatically the next time you sign in — you don’t need to do anything.

🔑 Password Reset

Forgetting your password used to lock you out for good. Now there’s a reset option right on the login screen. Because the password itself cannot be recovered, resetting clears your saved tab sets along with it.

🖥️ Long Names Display Properly

Tab sets with long names are now neatly truncated instead of shoving the delete button off the edge of the screen.

Why TabNestor?

TabNestor is built for people who live with a lot of tabs open — researchers following a dozen threads at once, professionals juggling projects, anyone who has ever been afraid to close a window.

Version 2.1 is about trust. The fixes in this release remove the moments where the extension didn’t behave the way you expected: the popup that wouldn’t hold still, the tab set that seemed to vanish, the export that fired three times. And the new AI naming takes away one more small chore — deciding what to call things — without sending a single byte of your browsing anywhere.

Update to TabNestor Version 2.1 today and enjoy calmer, smarter tab management!
